“Amour Champetre” by Circle of Jean Honore Fragonard FranceFrench (1732-1806) Oil on Canvas 72 by 63 in. Jean Honore Fragonard under the advice of Francois Boucher entered the Atelier de Chardin. In 1752 he was awarded the grand prix of Rome. His paintings were very well received at the Salon in Paris and the King of France himself purchased some of his works. Amusement played a greater role in Fragonard’s oeuvre than that of his contemporaries. Many of his paintings constitute a celebration of adolescent pleasure. He was the artist of charm. He was also attentive to teeming foliage and the silhouette of forms against the sky. Museums: Musee du Louvre (Paris); Musee du Petit Palais (Paris); National Gallery (London); Metropolitan Museum (New York); National Gallery (Washington D.C.); etc…
